Website HostingWebsite hosting is an important service for any business. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find a good web host, particularly for a small business. We've had personal experience with several website hosting services and we'll give you our recommendations. A good website host should be reliable, full-featured, customer service oriented, and low-priced. We haven't found the perfect host yet, but we've found a couple companies that are good enough. Yahoo Web Hosting is a good choice if you're a beginner with one to three websites. I've found this service to be very reliable and it's backed by the power of Yahoo. You get easy-to-setup email, free website creation software, free domain registration and even free-and-easy blog hosting software. The basic service is priced from $11.95 a month, which is good for what you get. E-commerce sites start at $39.95 a month. The downside is that customer service is unresponsive, site statistics are very poor, and they really don't want you around if you're running a lot of websites. For the heavy website hosting user, I recommend Apollo Hosting. Their "virtual private server" service lets you host unlimited websites, with large volumes of storage and transfer. All kinds of services are included, even merchant software. Apollo has been reliable for me and the price (from $39.96 a month) is excellent. Their site statistics are great. Negatives? Online documentation is poor, online help is crappy, and personal customer service is non-existent. There is no perfect website host, but those two are worth checking out. |
